- Become a decent public speaker.
- Have reasonable expectations.
- Do a little PR (public relations). - set up a blog or a website so that ur employers can easily find out more about u...
- Look happy.
- Bring your resume into 2010.
- Rehearse.
- Be upfront about being overqualified. - if you were previously occupying a higher position, focus on the skills you have instead of the position when applying for a lower position in a new job.
- Nail the food part of the lunch interview. - basically, act fast, be wise, do not choose your likes and dislikes.
- Mirror your interviewer.
- Smile during the phone interview.
- Don't freak out about failure.
- Volunteer.
- Blog it. - writing a blog will make you smarter (hence, more employable) because you’ll be doing all sorts of researching, reading, and thinking. A blog provides a showcase for said researching, reading, and thinking.
- Scrap the functional resume. - 3 out of 4 hiring managers say they prefer chronological resumes. They like to see a nice, neat career progression, preferably headed “upward.” Job seekers who go the functional route are trying to hide something.
- Try not to annoy your interviewer.
- Find an outlet.
- Put yourself in the company of upbeat people. - Positivity is contagious. Whatever you do, avoid the doomers-and-gloomers.
- Tweet. - twitter is a relatively easy way to stay on the radar. One can create instant exposure, build credibility, and brand oneself as a top talent. Learn to be pithy and smart in 140 characters and it may attract the attention of potential employers
- Grow your network.
- Change your resume-sending strategy. - do not just rely on news ads to get the job. Initiate and find out more abt the company tt you r interested in and show them wat you have tt they would need.
- Ignore the unemployment numbers. - be exceptional, make your employers think that u r an exception.
