Getting hired for a job...

Hihi... I was reading abt the news on YAHOO!, abt the biggest mistake one can make in a resume... Ya, resumes are very impt ya, it determines if u can get the job or not...

N after reading tt, which didnt contain much information, i continued reading dis related link: 21 secrets of getting the job... I'll list dem out since i've got nth to do... Btw, i'm using the office com again so i hope it doesnt cock up...

  1. Become a decent public speaker.
  2. Have reasonable expectations.
  3. Do a little PR (public relations). - set up a blog or a website so that ur employers can easily find out more about u...
  4. Look happy.
  5. Bring your resume into 2010.
  6. Rehearse.
  7. Be upfront about being overqualified. - if you were previously occupying a higher position, focus on the skills you have instead of the position when applying for a lower position in a new job.
  8. Nail the food part of the lunch interview. - basically, act fast, be wise, do not choose your likes and dislikes.
  9. Mirror your interviewer.
  10. Smile during the phone interview.
  11. Don't freak out about failure.
  12. Volunteer.
  13. Blog it. - writing a blog will make you smarter (hence, more employable) because you’ll be doing all sorts of researching, reading, and thinking. A blog provides a showcase for said researching, reading, and thinking.
  14. Scrap the functional resume. - 3 out of 4 hiring managers say they prefer chronological resumes. They like to see a nice, neat career progression, preferably headed “upward.” Job seekers who go the functional route are trying to hide something.
  15. Try not to annoy your interviewer.
  16. Find an outlet.
  17. Put yourself in the company of upbeat people. - Positivity is contagious. Whatever you do, avoid the doomers-and-gloomers.
  18. Tweet. - twitter is a relatively easy way to stay on the radar. One can create instant exposure, build credibility, and brand oneself as a top talent. Learn to be pithy and smart in 140 characters and it may attract the attention of potential employers
  19. Grow your network.
  20. Change your resume-sending strategy. - do not just rely on news ads to get the job. Initiate and find out more abt the company tt you r interested in and show them wat you have tt they would need.
  21. Ignore the unemployment numbers. - be exceptional, make your employers think that u r an exception.
